Processing second-order stochastic dominance models using cutting-plane representations

چکیده
Second-order stochastic dominance (SSD) is widely recognised as an important decision criterion in portfolio selection. Unfortunately, stochastic dominance models are known to be very demanding from a computational point of view. In this paper we consider two classes of models which use SSD as a choice criterion. The first, proposed by Dentcheva and Ruszczyński (2006), uses a SSD constraint, which can be expressed as integrated chance constraints (ICCs). The second, proposed by Roman, Darby-Dowman, and Mitra (2006) uses SSD through a multi-objective formulation with CVaR objectives. Cutting plane representations and algorithms were proposed by Klein Haneveld and Van der Vlerk (2006) for ICCs, and by Künzi-Bay and Mayer (2006) for CVaR minimization. These concepts are taken into consideration to propose representations and solution methods for the above class of SSD based models. We describe a cutting plane based solution algorithm and outline implementation details. A computational study is presented, which demonstrates the effectiveness and the scale-up properties of the solution algorithm, as applied to the SSD model of Roman, Darby-Dowman, and Mitra (2006).

متن کاملElectricity Procurement for Large Consumers with Second Order Stochastic Dominance Constraints
This paper presents a decision making approach for mid-term scheduling of large industrial consumers based on the recently introduced class of Stochastic Dominance (SD)- constrained stochastic programming. In this study, the electricity price in the pool as well as the rate of availability (unavailability) of the generating unit (forced outage rate) is considered as uncertain parameters. Th...

The paper considers modeling of risk-averse preferences in stochastic programming problems using risk measures. We utilize the axiomatic foundation of coherent risk measures and deviation measures in order to develop simple representations that express risk measures via specially constructed stochastic programming problems. Using the developed representations, we introduce a new family of highe...

The paper considers modeling of risk-averse preferences in (multi-stage) stochastic programming problems using risk measures. We utilize the axiomatic foundation of coherent risk measures and deviation measures in order to develop simple representations for these measures that facilitate their incorporation into stochastic programs. It is demonstrated that the developed representations allow fo...
